Remedy chart

If digested in large doses Bryonia causes profuse and uncontrollable diarrhea, vomiting, vertigo, reduction of temperature, dilatation of the pupils, cold perspiration, extremely small pulse, colic, collapse, and even death. In small doses it was used for arthritic and rheumatic conditions and also for lung complaints, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy, and whooping cough.

ESSENCE

The search for stability and security. Firmly rooted in the material world, objective and business oriented, with a strong desire for security and support, which they try to find in money and property. Deepest concerns center around survival and the need to work hard for financial security. There is often a tremendous fear of poverty. Even though doing well financially, still worry constantly about money. Sober, orderly, methodical, censorious, reliable, economical and dry. For them, the main demands of life are security, stability and safety. When lacking this sure ground, they become irritable, anxious and sad. Roger notes

Bryonia

Acute remedy, but in chronic situations it’s also got some uses. In the acutes, what can we say about the acutes? What are the main characteristics? Worse motion. That’s the trigger, the trigger word we talked about for Bryonia is worse motion. What else? Irritable. Thirst. What kind of thirst? Great thirst rarely. Infrequent, but large amounts. Opposite of Arsenicum, which is frequent for small amounts. The fevers are usually slow onset, that means start out on Monday with a little bit of aching, Tuesday he has got a slight fever, and Wednesday the fever peaks usually. They are worse from heat and the characteristic time of aggravation is what? 9:00 P.M. What is the remedy that has aggravation 9:00 A.M., the fever? Chamomilla.

So, you will use it in influenzas, with much aching and even in the prodrome for those few days before the fever peaks. They are still very much worse for movement. Irritable. They want to be alone. Bronchitis and pneumonia, you can use it in coughs. With great pain in the chest from coughs and especially headache that is very much aggravated by the cough. Pleurisy. It’s a specific. It’s one of the biggest remedies for pleurisies that is worse from the movement of taking a breath. Even the gastritis is worse from moving and you can get vomiting from slight movement in Bryonia. A little bit of movement even aggravates the stomach. Another point about the most violent remedies: they tend to have fear of animals, most Belladonna. I meant to mention — it’s worse from a jar so much and that’s true not just for the pains but also for the gastritis in Belladonna, a jar may make them vomit. But here it is movement that may make them vomit. Bryonia is almost a specific in appendicitis. In the appendicitis it wants to lie where? On the right side. On the painful side to protect it. Now, generally even though it is mostly worse hot, the stomach conditions are worse usually from cold drinks. But in the appendicitis they want cold applications.

It is good in meningitis, it is one of the big remedies for meningitis where they go into a delirium and they have this characteristic, that they ask to be taken home. "I want to go home. Take me home." When they start talking about that or if they start in a delirium talking about business affairs, that’s mostly Bryonia. In the meningitis, there is a characteristic movement of the mouth, where they move the mouth back and forth in a saw like motion of the teeth, of the jaw. That correlates with, in the chronic state, old atherosclerotic people, where sort of chew, like chewing their cud in old atherosclerotic people. In the meningitis and in the acutes in general, but especially in the meningitis, they ask for absolutely impossible things. It’s two in the morning and "bring me pickle ice cream" or something like that. If you finally find the pickle ice cream, they look at it and throw it away. That’s capriciousness like Chamomilla, like Cina, but it’s not so vicious. Now, in high fevers, they may have rigors, chills, absolute rigors, and still they want cold drinks. The mouth is very dry and sometimes it is dry but without thirst, like Pulsatilla and Nux Moschata. Dry mouth without thirst is the keynote. Of course, they are irritable. They want to be left alone. They want to concentrate their energy to recover themselves. Now, in the chronic state they are basic people. They are very materialistic, business oriented, not imaginative, very concerned with security - financial security, materialistic things, and that is why they have the very characteristic fear of poverty. Intense fear of poverty, along with what other remedies? Psorinum, Calcarea, Sepia. Anxiety about their future welfare. They usually come, though, not for anything psychological. They will come in for very characteristic physical problems. It is usually their headaches, constipation, and sometimes the vertigo. Now, the headaches, as we have said, are where? Left, go to the occiput and over the whole head. Their headaches are very much worse for movement, even motion of the eyes when they have got it can aggravate the headache and there is another keynote symptom - worse from ironing. If somebody gets a headache every time they are ironing, you can think of Bryonia. The vertigo has what characteristic? What is the characteristic of the vertigo? Keynote? Sinking through the bed. They feel like they are sinking down into the bed. Worse from movement obviously. There is a syndrome of epistaxis in children around 3:00 or 4:00 A.M. If you see that - little kids come into the emergency room or call you with bad epistaxis on a regular basis, at that time of night, that’s Bryonia. The cravings are for meat and for oysters, and they tend to be very thirsty in the chronic state also. Constipation is a very prominent feature of the chronic Bryonia state and they have large, very dry stools. Constipations from dryness, but large dry hard stools, that’s mostly Bryonia. They sleep on the left side and the main remedies that sleep on the left side are Bryonia, Sulphur, Calcarea, Mag Mur, and Natrum Mur. That’s all to remember about Bryonia. Also arthritis, I’m sorry. That is worse from the slightest movement. It’s good for sprains also. It’s one of the big sprain remedies, when the sprain is worse from the slightest movement. So headaches, constipation, arthritis, mostly those. Mostly they will come in for physical symptoms.
