ESSENCE "In addition to a need for stability of Calcarea, Sulphur introduces an element of ego and appreciation to the salt. Hence the main feeling of Calc-sulph is that he is not appreciated at the place of security, for example by his parents. Thus the Calc-sulph person is constantly trying to do things that will gain him appreciation. There is a constant feeling of not being appreciated or valued, of being put down and suppressed at the place of security." (Sankaran) MENTAL SYMPTOMS - Discontented, easily angered … jealousy (lamenting that he is not appreciated) … hates or despises those who do not agree with him … grumbling that his value is not appreciated by others - Fear of birds (Ign.) GENERAL SYMPTOMS - WARM-BLOODED, SWEATY (Sulph.) - Susceptible to both heat and cold - TENDENCY TO SUPPURATION, abscesses, etc. PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS PUS remedy: creamy, continuous, with no tendency to heal. AFFINITIES SKIN … connective tissue … glands … mucous membranes … bones … MODALITIES <: WARMTH (warm room; warm wraps; overheating) … evening … NIGHT … exertion >: open air SENSATIONS HEAT … heat of single parts DISCHARGES PUS: yellow or green, creamy NOTES - Eric very often uses Calc-sulph as a transitional remedy between Calc-carb and Sulph in Lyco – Sulph – Calc-carb triad. - Calc-sulph people are usually big, but not flabby like Calc-c. A Calc-sulph child is often "a bull in a china shop". - Very responsible and hard working employees (Calc.), but if they don’t get recognition (Sulph.), will become very disgruntled and won’t hesitate to let the boss know, although it may take a long time (Sulph. is usually volatile, so he will just blow and walk out of the job.) - "In my experience, a history of sibling rivalry is almost invariably obtained in the Calc-sulph person." (Sankaran). "…a child feels himself unappreciated. The other children get more love and attention. The reaction to such a situation can vary between timidity and jealousy and aggression. Jealousy might get the better of them and this can lead to aggression. They might drag their little brother or sister off the mother's lap in anger. This picture may strongly resemble that of Lach, Hyos, and Mosch." (Scholten) - "When the abscess has broken or has been lanced and is discharging, then Calc-sulph comes in; the presence of pus with a vent is the characteristic indication" (Dewey)
DIFFERENTIALS Hepar: Hepar is more painful and inflamed than Calc-sulph. Hepar is chilly, Calc-sulph is hot. Calc-sulph doesn’t have sharp, sticking pains of Hepar. Hepar is extremely sensitive to pain, Calc-sulph is not (sometimes there is no pain at all). Hepar is hypersensitive to the environment and fussy; Calc-sulph is not (Hepar can’t tolerate a draught, Calc-sulph is > in open air). Constitutionally Calc-sulph (and most sulphates) is strong and stable; Hepar is weak and volatile (ready to explode any minute), impulsive and very anxious. Sulph: skin eruptions itch violently especially in the warmth in both. There is more burning after scratching when Sulphur is the simillimum; more tendency to suppurate when Calc-sulph is indicated. The Sulphur case suffers more from the contact of water, and from the warmth of the bed.

Roger notes
We use Calc-sulph in what types of conditions? Infections in the skin with acne. It’s one of the main remedies for acne. And for abscesses — with what characteristic? Yellow discharge that doesn’t stop. They keep draining chronically, on and on and on, and they don’t stop. That can happen either when they open themselves or if they are surgically incised and it never closes again after that for years and years. Especially if you hear that history, you can give Calc-sulph. Especially if you hear that history or the history of acne and the craving for what? Green fruit. Very important. Like Medorrhinum, so you can get confused because Medorrhinum can have acne also. It can have lots of kinds of skin eruptions and if you hear acne and green fruit, it is a differential between those two. Also, Calc-sil is an acne remedy, but I can’t give you any confirmations for that except for a very very strong constipation.
Q. Is there a characteristic quality about the acne of Calc-sulph?
A. It is scarring, but it is not so badly scarring as like Silica can be. It is red. It’s not the kind where you see the big pustules on the top. It’s redder, but smaller than the Belladonna. Big scars sometimes, but not deep scars. The ones I have seen have been more superficial scars, but fairly big. That’s not totally reliable because I’ve only seen it once or twice.
