The spectrum of skin diseases with which human beings and even animals suffer is extremely widespread and variegated. From simple itching (pruritus) to severely exfoliated conditions cause untold suffering. Leucoderma, warts etc may not cause physical misery but are defects which many times defy ‘cure’ of the person. Removal of the external manifestations on the skin by application of ointments and other medicines has never been approved by the homoeopathic science. All such treatment suppresses and turns the disease force inwards to more sensitive areas and tissues of the person.  The medical profession has plenty of evidence and experience in the alternation of the appearance of asthma and eczema or rheumatism with other skin disorders. When one is treated, the other raises its head like in a Charlie Chaplin movie. When there is a clear indication of the miasmic totality it is easier for the homoeopathic prescription. But may a time people do suffer from peculiar skin diseases without much of concomitant symptoms.

I will illustrate a couple of such cases. A young person of about thirty-five came with cracked and leathery skin of the hands and fingers. They bleed and hurt severely on washing. And the suffering invariably aggravated during winter. I found out that he was working in the laboratory and has to handle petroleum products all the time in his occupation. There was no other noticeable symptom. Petroleum 1M cured him in about a couple of months. The same Petroleum was given to another person for his severe discomfort when he wore Nylon socks or Terylene shirts. Both the above cases had been treated for Allergy for a good bit of time before homoeopathy ended the suffering once and for all.

Now I will relate one case of a person with severe and threatening skin problem I have come across. K.P is now over seventy years old. He came to me about three years earlier but suddenly disappeared after a while presumably with the offer of quick salvation.  He returned a year ago in a much worse condition. I cautioned him to be patient this time and not to interfere with other measures without informing.  He made his living in trading of plastic, rubber and Rexene goods. He was constantly surrounded with these materials in his shop. He had itching all over the body, aggravated by scratching. He had severe swelling of the hands and legs with a reddish hue. Even the face showed some suffusion. He had earlier suffered from Pneumonia, Appendicitis and persistent cough. He always suffered more in Mumbai. I gave him Natrum Mur 1M based on this indication of aggravation at the sea-side and only Calendula for external application. It is not known by many that Calendula in tincture or even ointment form keeps all cuts and wounds very clean, cuts the tendency for suppuration and helps formation of the cicatric tissue.  He was oozing a thin watery fluid from all parts of the body and particularly from his bald pate. Only cold water relieved him of the irritation and he reported taking a cold bath in the middle of the night often. This gave me the cue and I put him on Vespa Crabro30, for its unique characteristic of amelioration by washing .This was the first breakthrough. He showed remarkable improvement in the swellings, broken skin of the hands and feet and also the oozing. He became quite cheerful.

Now it came to be known that he is quite adamant, and does not live with his children in spite of his condition. His fingertips and soles of the feet with thick and cracked skin induced me to follow up with Thuja 1M twice a week with stunning improvement becoming  better and better all over.  He continues to be fine and regularly reports.
